The official ceremony of handing over of COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipments was held


The official ceremony of handing over of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) including Safety coverall, Disinfectant liquid, and other materials to the Department of Local Government, Eastern Province to protect the areas coming under the purview of the Local Authorities from the spread of COVID 19 pandemic, was held with the arrangements of Commissioner of Local Government, EPC, Mr. N. Manivannan on 2020.07.06, Monday at 10.00 at the conference hall of the Chief Secretary Secretariat, Eastern Province.   The sponsorship was extended by the UNDP with the assistance of the European Union as an Emergency response to combat against the Corona Virus in the Eastern Province. The event was headed by Mr. Thusitha P. Wanigasinghe, the Chief Secretary of the Eastern Province with the participation of Deputy Chief Secretaries of the Eastern Provincial Council, Municipal Commissioners of Batticaloa, Akkaraipattu and Kalmunai, Assistant Commissioners of Local Government from Trincomalee, Batticaloa, and Ampara, Staff officers from the Department of Local Government and other staffs. Furthermore, Mr.Robert Juhkam - Resident Representative (RR), Mr.Navaneethan Vijayakumar – Project Manager of CDLG project, Mr.Shamir Shalih – CDLG project Coordinator for Eastern and Mr. Kulasegaram Partheepan – Field Project Specialist from the UNDP have participated as the special invitees.

The packs including 3 PLY Disposable Face MaskSodium Hypochlorite 1%Hand SanitizerNon-Contact Infrared ThermometerSafety OverallsDisposable Boot Coversand Power Sprayers were handed over to the Chief Secretary and other senior officers of the EPC by UNDP Resident Representative (RR)  Mr. Robert Juhkam.  Subsequently, the Chief Secretary of EPC has handed over the same to CLG and ACLGs to be distributed among the 45 Local Authorities functioning in the Eastern Province and requested to use those items and disinfect the area and combat against the COVID 19 to ensure the safety of the general public of the area.
